To earn social license, it is imperative that users of gene editing provide assurance to consumers, the food system and other stakeholders, that they are using gene-editing technology in a manner that is responsible, beneficial to society and worthy of public trust.
The Coalition has been working for the past 18 months to develop a voluntary framework for responsible pf gene editing in food and agriculture. To achieve its goal, the framework must be credible, workable and affordable, while providing the necessary transparency and assurances of responsible use. This framework has been developed by representatives from food companies, academic institutions, farmer organizations, non-governmental organizations, gene-editing technology developers and related associations who serve on the Steering Committee.
Currently, the Coalition is inviting feedback on the draft guidelines until March 14, 2020. To view the guidelines and learn how you can participate in the feedback process, please click here.
