Responsible Use

To earn social license, it is imperative that users of gene editing provide assurance to consumers, the food system and other stakeholders, that they are using gene-editing technology in a manner that is responsible, beneficial to society and worthy of public trust.

The Coalition developed a voluntary framework for responsible gene editing in food and agriculture. To achieve its goal, the framework must be credible, workable and affordable, while providing the necessary transparency and assurances of responsible use.  This framework has been developed by representatives from food companies, academic institutions, farmer organizations, non-governmental organizations, gene-editing technology developers and related associations who serve on the Steering Committee.

The Coalition collected feedback on the draft guidelines from diverse stakeholders and incorporated the input into the final framework. To view the framework and tell us what you think about the framework, please click here.
