Framework for Responsible Use of Gene Editing in Agriculture Secures Endorsement from Corteva Agriscience

The Coalition for Responsible Gene Editing in Agriculture today announced that Corteva Agriscience has formally endorsed the Framework for Responsible Use of Gene Editing in Agriculture. Corteva is a global agriscience company working to enrich the lives of those who produce and those who consume, ensuring progress for generations to come.

“As a global agriculture company, Corteva supports the Coalition for Responsible Gene Editing in Agriculture’s Responsible Use Framework and those who voluntarily agree to follow its principles and commitments,” said Sam Eathington, EVP, Chief Technology and Digital Officer, Corteva Agriscience. “We endorse the mission of building trust in gene editing to enable it to fulfill its potential to help advance sustainable agriculture and build a more resilient food system. We also fully support the application of gene editing and other technologies to bring innovation and choices to producers and consumers.”

Other industry leaders, including BIO, Cargill Inc., Costco Wholesale, FMI – The Food Industry Association, Genus PLC, PepsiCo and Tropic Biosciences, have publicly endorsed the Framework, acknowledging the value it provides to stakeholders throughout the agricultural and food supply chains.

“The Coalition appreciates the continued support from Corteva and other agriculture and food industry leaders who share our commitment to transparency and open dialogue to build trust in gene editing,” said Charlie Arnot, chief executive officer of  The Center for Food Integrity (CFI), the organization that administers the Coalition for Responsible Gene Editing in Agriculture. “Corteva has been a valuable partner in helping the Coalition develop the Framework for Responsible Use.”

The Framework was developed by a multi-stakeholder Coalition that included representatives from food companies, academia, civil society, technology developers, farmers and related associations. It outlines a set of principles and commitments that organizations voluntarily follow to demonstrate their willingness to be transparent about their use of gene editing and intentions that benefit the food system, environment and society as a whole.

Companies, businesses, academic or government organizations that use gene editing or its outputs in food or agriculture are invited to join the Coalition and adopt the Framework. Download the Framework here.

The Coalition was formed by The Center for Food Integrity to strive for global understanding and acceptance of the responsible use of gene editing technology in the food system. To learn more about the Coalition, visit geneediting.foodintegrity.org.
