Introducing Framework for Responsible Use of Gene Editing in Agriculture 2.0!

The Coalition for Responsible Gene Editing in Agriculture is excited to release the updated Framework for Responsible Use of Gene Editing in Agriculture 2.0.

As part of its commitment to continuous improvement, the Coalition initiated an open comment period earlier this year to gather valuable feedback from stakeholders across the food supply chain. During this comment period, the Coalition received insightful suggestions aimed at clarifying the intent of several commitments within the Framework and eliminating redundancies to streamline the verification process. The Framework Oversight Committee (FOC) reviewed and incorporated stakeholders’ feedback into the updated Framework 2.0.

The Framework is a voluntary market assurance program. It is a platform that food and agriculture organizations engaged in gene editing research, development, and/or product commercialization can utilize to demonstrate their responsible use of gene editing technology. This initiative is crucial in building trust with stakeholders across the food system, from developers to consumers.

The Framework can be a valuable tool for:

  • Technology developers using gene editing in food and agriculture applications. Contact the Coalition to learn more about the Framework and how it can help you build trust with your stakeholders.
  • CPG, foodservice and retail organizations. Contact the Coalition to explore how you can use Framework verification to reassure customers that gene-edited ingredients or food products in your supply chains were created responsibly.
